About Cold-Room Heating Cables

A cold-room door heating cable supplies heat around the contact region between the door and frame to help prevent freezing. Dedicated frame installations need a compatible cable cross-section, routed heated length, electrical supply and moisture-protected terminations. Self-regulating constructions appear in the source material for this application, but the name does not establish a fixed frame temperature or remove the need for circuit protection. Refrigeration drain lines present a different installation: a cable fixed externally to a pipe must be selected for that pipe and environment, and is not automatically an immersion heater.

Distinguish the door-frame circuit from external drain-pipe tracing and other refrigeration duties before choosing the construction.

Product Configurations

Door-frame heating circuits

Heating cable fitted to a defined frame route or channel. Confirm the frame material, channel dimensions, sealing method and clearance from hinges, seals and moving parts.

Enquire about this configuration

Low-voltage frame arrangements

A frame-heating assembly designed around a specified low-voltage supply. Select the power source and protection with the complete circuit; low voltage alone does not establish installation suitability.

Enquire about this configuration

External refrigeration drain-line tracing

A separately specified heating circuit attached to the outside of a drain pipe where freeze protection is required. Confirm pipe material, route, insulation and wet-area conditions; internal or submerged use needs separate product suitability.

Customize for Your Application

Fit the frame route

Discuss cable dimensions, heated length and termination positions against the frame drawing. Changes to the door design may require a new route and thermal review.

Match the supply and circuit

Specify the available electrical system and the number of doors or pipe circuits. A different voltage cannot be substituted without confirming the heater and power-source requirements.

Plan moisture-resistant connections

Locate terminations and lead exits where they can be protected and serviced. Confirm the complete connection assembly and cleaning conditions, rather than relying on the insulation material alone.

Operating Limits to Check

  • Door-frame heating, external drain tracing, immersion heating and cold-store foundation heating are different duties.
  • Confirm cable mounting, sealing and terminations for the actual frame and cleaning exposure.
  • No universal voltage, wattage, service life or environmental approval is claimed for this product category.

Typical Applications

Cold-room door frames

Heating around the frame contact region where ice can interfere with opening. Confirm the intended thermal duty with the cold-room equipment designer.

Freezer access doors

Frame-heating circuits for lower-temperature equipment, subject to the actual frame geometry, opening frequency, supply and protective arrangements.

Refrigeration drain-pipe freeze protection

External pipe tracing for an identified drain route. Treat the pipe circuit as a separate specification from the door heater and confirm any water-contact restrictions.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Identify the freezing location

Show whether the problem is at a door contact surface, an external drain pipe or another component. Do not substitute one circuit design for every refrigeration task.

Match cable, frame and supply

Confirm route geometry, mounting dimensions, electrical supply and operating conditions before selecting a cable construction.

Review connections and protection

Check terminations, moisture exposure, temperature control and electrical protection with the completed equipment design.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Frame material, mounting geometry, door-opening conditions and heat loss also affect the duty. Supply a door drawing and the complete operating conditions so the heater can be assessed for the installed frame.
No universal supply applies to the category. The source material includes a dedicated low-voltage frame design, but the selected assembly must be matched to its specified supply. Confirm voltage and supply characteristics before connecting a heater.
Self-regulation describes how local cable output changes with temperature. The resulting frame temperature also depends on heat loss and installation. Confirm the sensing, control and protective arrangements needed for the actual equipment.
Not on the basis of an external pipe-tracing description. Internal or submerged installations require a heater and connection system specifically suitable for that use and exposure. State the intended installation location in the inquiry.
Only where the selected product's cutting rules permit it. Circuit length and termination requirements depend on construction and supply. Provide the required route before the assembly is specified; do not assume a finished heater can be cut.
No. The primary scope is frame heating and separately specified refrigeration freeze-protection circuits. A cold-store foundation system needs its own thermal design, layout and construction review and is not established by a door-heater specification.
Order quantities are agreed for each custom project. Contact VELHEAT with your intended configuration and planned quantity so these can be discussed together.
