About Pre-Insulated Heated Pipes

A pre-insulated heated pipe combines a service pipe with an electric heating cable beneath insulation and an outer covering. The pipe carries water; the cable replaces heat lost along the route. Assess PEX or PE-RT against the operating pressure, temperature and connection method. Although a polymer pipe can bend during installation, this product serves a defined piping route. It differs from a heated hose intended for frequent handling and from a cable kit fitted to an existing pipe.

Give VELHEAT the route, water conditions and winter exposure to coordinate the connections and power arrangement.

Product Configurations

PEX service-pipe assemblies

A PEX water pipe combined with self-regulating tracing, insulation and an outer covering. Specify the pipe dimensions and compatible fittings, then evaluate the complete assembly for the water temperature, pressure and exposed route.

PE-RT service-pipe assemblies

A PE-RT water pipe using the same integrated heating and insulation concept. Review its particular pressure-temperature documentation and joint system rather than transferring the limits or fittings selected for a PEX assembly.

Customize for Your Application

Match pipe and fittings

Start with the water service and its pressure-temperature conditions. Select the service pipe and connection system together, including transition fittings where the assembly joins existing plumbing.

Define the protective construction

Discuss insulation thickness and an outer covering suited to the actual exposure. Outdoor sunlight resistance, moisture protection and a required fire classification are separate requirements; one does not establish the others.

Coordinate heated ends and power

Identify valves, joints and sections beyond the insulated length. Decide how these areas are protected and where electrical connections can remain accessible for inspection without opening the water circuit.

Operating Limits to Check

  • Select and document the complete pipe assembly for its pressure, temperature, electrical and environmental conditions.
  • Keep joints and heating-cable terminations accessible and protect exposed ends against moisture entry.
  • Burial, immersion, frequent hose handling and drinking-water compliance require separate application review.

Typical Applications

Solar water-heater connections

For exposed water connections that need winter freeze protection. State the hottest water that can reach the line as well as the coldest outdoor condition; freeze protection does not establish suitability for every solar heating circuit.

Exposed building water services

For defined water-supply routes through cold spaces or outdoor sections. Include wall penetrations, valves and transition points in the design so the inquiry covers the complete vulnerable route.

Outdoor utility-water links

For installed utility-water connections with intermittent flow or long idle periods. Describe shutdowns and seasonal use so the operating plan addresses the periods when flowing water provides little protection.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Describe the complete water route

Send a route drawing with lengths, pipe sizes, fittings and exposed sections. Mark the water source and outlet conditions rather than specifying only a nominal pipe diameter.

Assess heat loss and component limits

Use the winter exposure and insulation arrangement to define the heating duty. Check the pipe, heating cable, insulation and covering against both normal service and the hottest credible exposure.

Agree installation and operation

Confirm connection access, circuit protection, sensing and the treatment of unheated fittings. Include an operating response to a power interruption before finalizing the assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

This assembly includes the water pipe, heating cable, insulation and covering for an installed route. A heated hose has its own connection and handling requirements. A separate cable kit fits an existing pipe. Compare the complete installation scope before selecting among them.
The heating duty described here is freeze protection along a water line. It does not make the assembly a flow-through water heater. If water must arrive at a particular elevated temperature, state the incoming temperature, flow and required outlet condition for a separate duty assessment.
Specify that use in the inquiry. The service pipe, fittings and other wetted components need documentation appropriate to the destination and application. A material name such as PEX or PE-RT does not establish drinking-water approval for the complete assembly.
Agree the supplied length and any permitted field work before ordering. Cutting affects the service pipe, insulation seal and heating-cable termination. A cable technology that permits length adjustment does not make every assembled pipe suitable for unrestricted cutting or for reuse with arbitrary end components.
Insulation slows heat loss, while the cable provides replacement heat when energized. An extended outage can therefore change the freeze-protection condition. Describe the expected outage duration and site operating arrangements, including any draining or backup provision that the installation requires.
Email VELHEAT the route drawing, pipe dimensions, water temperatures and pressure, winter conditions, electrical supply and connection details. Include the destination, documentation needs and quantity. Order quantity can be discussed for the custom project alongside construction and supplied lengths.
Order quantities are agreed for each custom project. Contact VELHEAT with your intended configuration and planned quantity so these can be discussed together.
